/>Parasomnia

The first time i watched the thriller opening Parasomnia i was really impressed. It looked like a real thriller opening for a proper movie. I was really intriged for what was to happen in the rest of the film (if there was one).
The effect with the blood slowly gushing out was really effective it showed that the film was a thriller and made me (the audience) want to know why there was the blood.
It was really clear about what was going happening because you saw the guy tossing and turning in bed n then it would flash to him standing in the middle of no-where which made us assume that he was dreaming. The shot with the guy in the field the camera work was really effective becuase the panoramic shot made me feel uncomfortable because you can tell the person in the field is not there out of choice also becuase how he was positioned he looked disorientated.
The flashing image of a face gives the feeling of something lurking in the darkness and makes us feel like he is he villian, this also makes me feel scared.
There were a range of shots in this thriller opening and movement of the camera of parts was again very effective because it gives the thriller feel to the opening.
I also thought the soundtrack was really effective. i esspecially liked the sound at the end when the word parasomnia was flashing on the screen because it sounded
scratchy, static which linked to the opening.
My only critisism would be that the credits flash too quickly and they could be in a different font so that they could link a bit more with whats going on in the opening. But overall i think this thriller opening was really good and i think they completed the task well.

Student Work Analyse

Stalker

The first time i watched this opening was in my class when we were first introduced to the Thriller project. We had watched a few openings, this one however was by far my favourite and it really stood out to me. I was amazed at the quality of the whole opening. I think everything from the Music, Costumes, Props, Actors, Filming, Shots, credits and dialogue all worked well together and it was clear that they had spent time on getting this to the standard which i thought it was.

The storyline became very clear, very early on in this opening which made me the viewer understand what was going on and what type of thriller they were trying to portray. I think that their general idea was for a girl who had been stalked by someone else to get killed in her own home. They had managed to create a Hybrid with this opening as it could also be seen as a thriller/horror, although it does still clearly fit into the thriller category.

The music which they had created fitted well in with the storyline and the tones of the music were placed at the right times of the opening to create suspense, tension and created a better impact on the viewer.

Overall i think that this was well put together and well presented and it does have a huge impact on the viewer. From watching this opening it makes the viewer want to see more and find out what happened and why.

Student work analysis

My first thoughts of "Welcome" before even looking at the detail of shots etc was that it looks like a really watchable film which i think is important. Another feature of the opening scene i thought was good was the soundtrack. The soundtrack is crucial to building tension in those first few shots which they managed to do successfully from my point of view. The film also contained most of the shot types neccersary to add diversity to your film. Establishing shot, close-up shot, match on action shot etc. A slight criticism i would add about the filming is that I think the lighting could have been made better. I know they wanted to create a tense thriller like atmospere but i just think it was a bit unclear and sometimes hard to establish what was going on. Overall I rate the film well and give it 53/60

continuity task

This task was a challenege to the class and especially to our group. It was bascially the first time we had to put a small film together, with the instruction to add various specific shots. The shots which we had to try to include at some point during this task were;

Establishing shot which we managed to do quite well, this was probably the easiest shot to do.

Another shot which we had to try and include were Close up shots which we managed but maybe not as well as we could have.

The Match on action shot was a little bit harder but i think we pulled it off, if we had longer on this task we may have been able to do this a bit better.

Reaction shot was quite a simple shot, i don't think we spent much time on this particular shit and it does show, although it works well within this task.

Long Shot, we managed to pull this task off i think

Filming a conversation was quite an interesting shot to do. We had a really good idea of what we wanted to film for this shot although it didn't work to plan but worked quite well.

Finally the last shot which we had to put into this was a 180 degree shot which does sounds the most complicated and was the most complicated. Although this was a complicated shot to do we did do it quite well.

There was a number of problems which we had to consider and encounter when doing this.

Other students were getting in the way while we were trying to shoot this, which meant we had a lot of un-wanted footage.

Another problem was a form teacher was getting in the way and distracting us from our filiming.

This meant that we had to re-take shots several times and did get repetitive.

If i was to do this again i would try and think about the storyline more and try to make it more appealing and exciting. Doing this task will help me and my group with the Thriller project as it will enable us to learn from our previous mistakes and do things which we may ot have done the first time round.

Continuity Editing

Our continuity editing video was made by me, Pippa and Hollie. I think that we successfully shot the sequence to demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule.
The establishing shot where character 1 is established in a location. For this we shot Hollie walking down a pathway.
Close up shot, we shot a close up of Hollies feet while she was walking down the same pathway. We showed this again when Hollies was walking up the stairs, we cut half way and shot from a different angle.
Reaction shot, we showed this when i turned around and noticed Hollie walking towards me.
Long shot, when Hollie was walking up the stairs.
Filming a conversation, we showed this when me and Hollie were having a conversation and whilst filming the conversation we used the 180 degree rule.
The problems we faced were, other students around college walking through the shot while we were filming so we had to re-take a few times.
If i were to do this task again i would have probably made the storyline a bit more exciting and shown match on action a bit clearer.
I think i have learnt from my mistakes which will help me in my thriller project, so i wont make the same mistakes again. i also know that we didnt plan enough for this task, which shows me that i need to do more planning for the thriller project.

student thriller analysis

Escape

'Escape' the student thriller i have been previewing was a high rated piece of filming. The story 'Escape' was a great thriller title and creates a good storyboard with well worked camera shots, however in points the camera work sometimes was a bit confusing and some shots blured or wasnt the right shot for the job. but overall the trailer was good student work and had all the techniques boxes ticked, out of 60 i would give it a 52

Lewis bird

Real Thriller analysis

Se7en

The opening shot is very good for setting the scene of the film. The scary music builds the tension really well and makes the audience understand that the film is a thriller. The picture of the hands and the notebook shows the audience that the person in the opening of this thriller is the bad guy. Again the music links really well to the opening as the high pitched sounds make the audience scared.
The flickering of the shots and the sound to go with it again makes it go really well with the idea that the opening is a thriller. I think that the credits make the opening really effective because the font makes the opening look scary and the flickering of the credits again add to the effect they are trying to create on the audience.
