Our rough cut is not finished. We have noticed some problems which we need to amend when making it better. We ran out of time to correct these.
- The music starting when the film does - Titles and credits need working on - music may need to be changed on timing in shots and how it effects the shot. - The sound effects of things happening should not be as loud as they are i.e the moped, doors etc.
We thought that this thriller was really effective so this is what influenced us to do a stalker thriller opening. We liked how the opening flashed from scene to scene, which created suspense and kept us as the audience on the edge of our seats. We tried to use this effect to drew the audience into our thriller opening.
This is the storyboard for our thriller opening. We included as many shots as we thought we would like to use in our real thriller. However we did not flip the images over when we took the photos which means when you watch our anamatic video it does not make sense as much as it could have. This is something which we have learnt from for the future. we may decide to not use some of these scenes or even add more scenes in our final thriller.
- Stalker - Photos of the victim - photos all on one wall in a small dark room - Fridge door closes, and shows a note showing that the victims family have gone on holiday. - Victim walks around his house, the audience can see that there is somebody in the background watching him. - Victim goes out and leaves a key under the mat. - Comes back later at night and still the audience see that somebody is watching him. - Goes into living room and the television turns on automatically, he then turns around and someone smashes him over the head, this is the stalker. - The audience then see the stalker putting the victim into the boot of his car, as the boot closes the title of the film is revealed.
The first time i watched the thriller opening Parasomnia i was really impressed. It looked like a real thriller opening for a proper movie. I was really intriged for what was to happen in the rest of the film (if there was one). The effect with the blood slowly gushing out was really effective it showed that the film was a thriller and made me (the audience) want to know why there was the blood. It was really clear about what was going happening because you saw the guy tossing and turning in bed n then it would flash to him standing in the middle of no-where which made us assume that he was dreaming. The shot with the guy in the field the camera work was really effective becuase the panoramic shot made me feel uncomfortable because you can tell the person in the field is not there out of choice also becuase how he was positioned he looked disorientated. The flashing image of a face gives the feeling of something lurking in the darkness and makes us feel like he is he villian, this also makes me feel scared. There were a range of shots in this thriller opening and movement of the camera of parts was again very effective because it gives the thriller feel to the opening. I also thought the soundtrack was really effective. i esspecially liked the sound at the end when the word parasomnia was flashing on the screen because it sounded scratchy, static which linked to the opening. My only critisism would be that the credits flash too quickly and they could be in a different font so that they could link a bit more with whats going on in the opening. But overall i think this thriller opening was really good and i think they completed the task well.
The first time i watched this opening was in my class when we were first introduced to the Thriller project. We had watched a few openings, this one however was by far my favourite and it really stood out to me. I was amazed at the quality of the whole opening. I think everything from the Music, Costumes, Props, Actors, Filming, Shots, credits and dialogue all worked well together and it was clear that they had spent time on getting this to the standard which i thought it was.
The storyline became very clear, very early on in this opening which made me the viewer understand what was going on and what type of thriller they were trying to portray. I think that their general idea was for a girl who had been stalked by someone else to get killed in her own home. They had managed to create a Hybrid with this opening as it could also be seen as a thriller/horror, although it does still clearly fit into the thriller category.
The music which they had created fitted well in with the storyline and the tones of the music were placed at the right times of the opening to create suspense, tension and created a better impact on the viewer.
Overall i think that this was well put together and well presented and it does have a huge impact on the viewer. From watching this opening it makes the viewer want to see more and find out what happened and why.
My first thoughts of "Welcome" before even looking at the detail of shots etc was that it looks like a really watchable film which i think is important. Another feature of the opening scene i thought was good was the soundtrack. The soundtrack is crucial to building tension in those first few shots which they managed to do successfully from my point of view. The film also contained most of the shot types neccersary to add diversity to your film. Establishing shot, close-up shot, match on action shot etc. A slight criticism i would add about the filming is that I think the lighting could have been made better. I know they wanted to create a tense thriller like atmospere but i just think it was a bit unclear and sometimes hard to establish what was going on. Overall I rate the film well and give it 53/60
